Kayaking on the Russian River 07-01-14

I went Kayaking with Bob yesterday.

I got to Bob’s place around 11:30. We headed for Monte Rio and put in at the boat ramp.

The weather was pretty warm and there was a nice breeze blowing up stream from the ocean today.

We paddled slowly down stream stopping often in the shade of the overhanging trees.

With the breeze blowing up stream it was a struggle to stay in one spot.

There were lots of birds on the river today.
Here is a Green Heron.

There were also several Great Blue Herons along the shore.

We slowly continued down stream to the Villa Grand hole.

Near the hole I saw this small raft of ducks heading for me.

We pulled under some low hanging trees for a break and lunch.

A young mallard duck decided to hang out with us.

I think she was looking for a hand out.

As we sat there I was admiring the nice homes along the river.

We also noticed some workers installing an aluminum stair case down to the river.

After hanging out at Villa Grand Hole for a while we started back up stream.

We saw more birds on the way back to the take out.

The breeze blowing upstream allowed us to just drift along hardly paddling at all.

IMGP4169

We spotted some bathing beauties

And ducks just hanging out on a log.

We drifted along and eventually got back to the boat ramp around 4:00. There was a family of ducks sleeping on the ramp when we arrived.

It was a really nice day on the river.
I don’t do that near often enough. I’ll have to work on that.

We are heading up to the cabin tomorrow and will be there until Sunday. When we get home we will finish putting last minute stuff in the RV and on Tuesday 07/08 we will leave for our trip to Canada.
