We met up with Donna and Greg at their place on Moyie Lake.
After the normal standing around BS’ing for a few minutes we left for Kootenay Lake and the starting point for the Grey Creek Pass Road.
We stopped at Creston, BC
to top off the gas tanks;
and then continue to the Grey Creek Store where we waited for Donna and Greg to catch up. They had stopped to pick up a couple Subway sandwiches.
At the start of the road is a sign about radio communications on the road.
I don’t know what the sign is on about but it must mean something to the loggers.
The road over Grey Creek Pass is for the most part is in good shape and does not require 4WD to get over it.
The road climbs from about 3000+ feet to about 7000+ feet at the summit.
As with all the other roads we have been on, this one is lined with wild flowers.
Here are some Bachelor Buttons.
and other flowers.
I don’t know what these flowers are but they are interesting.
They start out looking like this.
Here are some Hogweed, just beginning to bloom.
We also found several wild Tiger Lilies.
And of course fire weed.
We also passed small waterfalls along side the road
We crossed several creeks that made me wish I had a fishing rod with me.
We stopped for lunch at a recreation site.
After lunch we continued our ride through the mountains.
The mountain peaks were spectacular.
At one point we could see some beaver ponds in a valley below us.
We stopped at a spot on the St Mary’s River
which runs into St Mary’s Lake.
We stopped at the town of Marysville where there is a small creek (Mark’s Creek) running through the town with a spectacular set of falls.
We had dinner at the Maryville Pub and then headed for home.
It was a great day and a really pretty ride through the mountains.
