Council Rocks and another dinner at Big Nose Kate’s. 01-25-15

Council Rocks;

We took a ride to the west side of the Dragoon Mountains to see if we could find the counsel rocks pictographs. Patti and I had been there about seven years ago so we were relying on our memory to locate them.
We drove about a mile north of the RV park where we are staying and turned east on Middle March Road.

We drove about ten miles to forest road 687 where we turned north and drove for 6.5 miles. Along the way we took several side roads.
We saw some Arizona moose along the way.

Here we stopped to check out this water windmill.

All along the road are views of the rugged Dragoon Mountains.

Closer to the road you can see the interesting rock formations.

This one is called the Madonna.

Eventually we arrived at the parking area for the trail to the pictographs.

We decided to have lunch before taking the foot trail into the rocks.

You climb on a narrow trail around large boulders for about 15 minute and finally get to the top where the Pictographs are.

There is a plaque at the sight explaining what you are looking at.

The area is interesting in that there are areas where the boulders lean together forming sheltered grotto’s where primitive peoples took shelter.

In one there is a well used grinding stones.

After wandering around the area for a while we headed back down the trail

to the parking area.

Along the way we noticed several divots and natural holes in the rocks. This one kind of looks like a foot print of a large cat or maybe a triceratops.

From here we headed for home enjoying the views of the rocks

Dinner at Kate’s

We got back to the RV around 3:30 and took a break. At 5:00 we went back to Big Nose Kate’s for dinner.  The fourth Saturday of every month  is known as “Twilight” which means that the stores are open until 9PM and the town folk dress in their old west clothing; which makes for an interesting atmosphere in the saloon.

Here are a few examples.

A lot of them were packing heat, even one of the waiters. Cool!!

There were a lot of interesting faces in the crowd.

The guy on the right is portraying Doc Holiday.

This guy reminds me of a thin Sam Eliot.

Patti and Suzanne had their pictures taken with this woman.

And the band played on.

After sitting around in the saloon for a while I got kind of nostalgic for my days at Rendezvous.

This one is for Gabriella.

Dinner was good and I think we are going back to Kate’s for lunch today.
