We went to Sedona AZ yesterday for Patti’s birthday.
It is only about 65 miles from here.
To get there we drove to Flagstaff where we got onto 89A which goes down the Oak Creek Canyon.
The ride through the canyon is beautiful.
Patti got some good pictures.
Here are a couple of them.
When we got to Sedona we drove through the tourist area and back again.
We finally found a parking spot.
The Sedona area is beautiful but
Sedona sucks.
Of course, that is just my opinion. You have to understand that I despise anything tourist.
We had a nice lunch at a mexican place called Taos Cantina.
The weather was nice and warm so we dined on the patio.
After lunch we went to the visitors center and got some information on an alternate route to get home and a map.
On the way back to the jeep Patti stopped at a few shops but was not that interested in shopping for some reason.
She took pictures of a couple of statues along the promenade.
We left Sedona around 1:30 and headed south on 89A to the town of Jerome,
another tourist trap.
The town was really crowded and there must have been a motorcycle rally or something because there were motorcycles everywhere.
We went through the town and turned onto Perkinsville Road.
Perkinsville Road is the same road that we have taken south of Williams to get into the forest. Just outside Jerome the road turns to dirt so we got to do a some dirt road driving. I had been wondering what the south end of Perkinsville Road was like.
It is a good dirt road
and is fairly scenic.
Patti got a couple of pictures of some semi wildlife.
We saw a nice big gopher snake on the road just before we got to Perkinsville.
When we got to the sign that said “Perkinsville” we discovered that there is no “Ville” at Perkinsville.
There is a nice creek
and a bridge but no town.
We drove across the bridge and continued north.
After about 15 miles the road became paved.
Today we are going to take another ride. We are going to try the mountains just west and north of Flagstaff.
