On Friday we went out to Scull Rock for a weenie roast.
There were four jeeps and ten people in the group.
Just right.
We left the RV park around 10:15 and headed south on 95 to the Palm Canyon entrance to the KOFA preserve. Turning east we followed the main dirt road to the kiosk where we turned left on KOFA Queen Canyon Rd. We followed the trail for a couple miles enjoying views of the KOFA range.
Here is an historical note:
Back in the 1800’s the miners and prospectors of the time called these mountains the “Shit House Mountains” because they felt that the little spires along the ridges looked like out houses.
We stopped at a view spot for a break.
From here we continued along the trail to Scull Rock.
We hung out there for about three hours, chatting and roasting hotdogs.
Patti has to sit in the shade when ever possible so we sat in the entrance to the cave under Scull Rock.
As always, the weenie roast was a lot of fun.
