Gold Bar Rim and a little of the Golden Spike trails.

On The Way.

We gathered at the north end of town and headed north on 191 for about 9 miles where we turned at a large parking area where we stopped to air down.
From there we followed a dirt road south along the cliffs.

IMGP2723

The road takes us into a large high valley.

IMGP2726

We stopped to take pictures of this rock formation called the Gooney Bird.

IMGP2729

The Trail.

Eventually we came to the trail head. This trail leads to three different trails. We will only be on two of them.

IMGP2737

The trail starts out rough.

IMGP2738

It is just the normal stuff.
Ledges

IMGP2744

Slick rock.

IMGP2752

Steep climbs.

IMGP2763

Steep down grades.

IMGP2765

Great views.

IMGP2764

A Waterfall.

IMGP2773

When it was my turn we hooked a strap to the back of my jeep just as a precaution against the possibility of doing a front flip.

IMGP2784

It turned out not to be a problem.

IMGP2785

Heading for the Rim.

Once we got past the Waterfall we cruised along the trail.

IMGP2795

More climbs.

IMGP2801

and slick rock

IMGP2803

and lots more ledges.

IMGP2827

Eventually we arrived at the rim.

IMGP2829

This is the highest view point of all the trails in the area.

IMGP2836

Here is the view south.

IMGP2834

This is looking north.

IMGP2835

Golden Spike Trail.

We left the overlook and headed for the Golden Spike trail.

IMGP2840

We get a nice view of the Colorado River.

IMGP2838

Lunch at the Double Whammy.

Double Whammy is an obstacle that most short jeeps can’t make it over.

We stopped here for lunch.

IMGP2843

Dennis M gave it a try but after a few times he gave up.

IMGP2845

Greg tried a different spot and after a couple attempts made it up the step.

IMGP2847

Time to Head Back.

After lunch we started back along the trail.
Same stuff, different direction.

IMGP2850

A Broken Jeep.

This is something you don’t want to happen out here. This jeep has a broken steering box. The guy had to go back to town, get the parts and fix it out here.

IMGP2851

Back at the Waterfall.

Eventually we were back at the waterfall.

The jeeps with front lockers all made it up.

IMGP2871

When it came to my turn we hooked a strap to my jeep to help get me up the fall.

IMGP2875

After the waterfall we continued to the highway.

IMGP2878

Once we were at the parking area again we aired up the tires and headed for “Zax Family Restaurant” for Pizza and a salad bar. The salad bar was ho hum and the Pizza about the same as what you would find at Pizza Hut.

A good day.
