Well, it looks like I have some catching up to do.
Saturday was a lot like Friday, the weather was getting hot in Moab.
Patti did a little more laundry. I cleaned up around the RV and started putting stuff away so we could get going early Sunday morning.
We went to Milt’s for a last Buffalo Burger. Patti had a fish sandwich.
Back at Plan “B” we continued to get things ready.
In the evening we went to La Hacienda for dinner.
Patti had the Crab Enchiladas and I had a Carne Asada Chimichanga.
Good stuff!
When we got back to the RV we put the tow bar on the jeep. Now all we had to do was dump the tanks, disconnect the utilities and hook up the jeep in the morning.
I got up early Sunday morning and had breakfast. Patti got up shortly after that and we were ready to leave by around 7:30.
We drove north on 191 and turned west when we got to I-70.
We crossed the Green River and eventually started climbing a high pass.
The highway went through some interesting rock formations.
At the summit we passed a formation called Ghost Rock.
Going down the other side the rocks turned from yellow/white to red.
Eventually we came to the junction with highway 89 and turned north.
We drove through Salina and Gunnison. Finally we came to Manti where we were planning to spend a couple of nights.
Manti is a fairly small town with a population of about 3,200. The highway runs through the middle of town
but I didn’t notice a business district. There were several churches, at least three were LDS churches and a large Temple on a high hill.
This was the first LDS temple built in Utah
The RV park we are staying at is called The Temple Hill RV Resort.
We arrived at around 11:30 and got checked in. We hooked up, had lunch and decided to take a ride.
At the southern end of town is a road going east that is a national forest access. We headed up that road to where it forked. We took the right fork.
To this point the road was wide and well graded.
The road followed a tumbling snow melt creek.
After the fork, the road became very rough with lots of holes, ruts and rocks.
We bounced up the road enjoying the scenery.
We passed a waterfall called Milky Falls.
The road continued to climb steadily through a forest of mixed aspen and pine.
We passed several ponds
and one that you could call a lake.
Eventually we climbed out of the timber at 10,666 ft
and arrived at a cross road called Skyline Drive.
We went to the top of the ridge to take a few pictures.
From there we drove along the ridge on Skyline Drive toward Ephraim Canyon until we came to a large snow drift across the road.
There was a bypass so we drove around the drift and went another couple of hundred yards where we came to another drift.
It also had a bypass so we took it and continued north.
The road started going down the side of the canyon but came to another drift.
There was no bypass.
Looking further down the road we could see that there were several places where the road was completely inundated by snow drifts so we turned around and headed back to the intersection.
We continued past the junction and drove about a mile to another snow drift with no bypass. There was a trail going east so we followed it. Not far up the trail, just past a large mud hole there was another large drift. We turned around and at the intersection we started back down the the road toward Manti.
When we got to the RV it was very hot inside.
We turned on the AC but it wasn’t until the sun went down that it finally cooled off. We will turn on the AC earlier today so it doesn’t get to hot.
