03-20-10

On Thursday Patti took a bus ride to Scottsdale to gamble at the Casino Arizona. She left at 7:30am and returned at 5:00. It took about two hours to get there. She gambled for about two hours, lost a bunch of money, spent about 15 minutes having lunch at the buffet (not very good) and sat on a bench for about two hours and 30 minutes waiting for the buss. The rest of the time was spent on the road coming home. She said she won't be going back.

We have used Old Yuma road many times to go to the Kofa as it is better for the ATV guys because they can't drive for long distances on the highway with out getting run over by big trucks etc.
Every time we do this we turn east on a trail just past the Power lines and enter The Kofa on the pipe line road.
I keep wondering where Old Yuma Road goes from there, so yesterday Patti and I drove down AZ-95 to where the power line trail comes out and turned onto it. When we got to old Yuma road we turned south and drove about two and a half miles when we came to a split in the road.
There was a sign there indicating that old Yuma road went to the right. We decided to continue going straight to see where we ended up. After a little over a half mile we came to some large diamond shaped signs with red reflectors on them but no warnings or keep out signs so we continued on.
After a short distance we saw our first Rattle snake of the season, an Arizona Diamond Back or "Coon tail rattler".

From this road we could see one of the "eyes in the sky" which are blimps that are used for surveillance of the US/Mexican boarder. It was grounded at the time.

Eventually we came to a major dirt road that goes east/west from the highway into the proving grounds. We followed it to the the highway just to see where it came out. When we got there we turned around and went back the way we came. When we got back to the "Y" we turned west and followed this trail a short distance until we came to this sign.

We crossed Tyson Wash going and on the way back we turned north in the wash for a short ways but it was very soft so we decided to go back to the trail and head for home. We stayed on Old Yuma Road until we got home.
Well, we satisfied our curiosity about Old Yuma road. The high point of the trip was seeing the snake.

For the Golfers among you I got this photo in my email today and thought I'd include it here. If you are ever thinking of playing Desert Golf be aware, there are additional hazards besides the occasional rattle snake encounter.
Be care full where you lye down.

So you think Tiger Woods has gotten himself into a prickly situation.
