Background.
The last time we went to the California side of the Colorado River with the Monday group, we invited Cheryl and Dennis to come along.
When we were finished they said that we should bring the Wednesday group out here.
Get Going.
We met the Wednesday jeepers at the fire station at 8:00.
When everyone arrived we headed north to Parker, AZ. We didn’t cross the river at Parker; instead we stayed on AZ-95 and drove to Parker Dam and crossed the river here.
There was a truck in the middle of the dam, doing something when we arrived so we had to wait in line about ten minutes before we could cross.
First Burro’s
About a mile after crossing the dam we saw the first Burro’s of the day.
People have asked me: what do burros eat?
I usually tell them, “everything.”
Here they are eating a Palo Verde tree.
We continued along the paved road heading north.
On the Main Power Line Road
Eventually, we came to the turnoff that goes to the Havasu Palms Mobil Home Park.
We stopped here to air down.
The last time we were here we came out on this main power line road. This time, we are going in the opposite direction.
The views are just as good going this way.
Here is another group of Burro’s.
The “Big” Cave.
From one spot we could see the “Big” cave. This is the one that people drive their jeeps into for kicks.
Bighorn Sheep, Rocks and Burro’s.
These are the first Bighorn Sheep that we have seen this season.
We continue to follow the winding trail through the mountains.
Passing more interesting rocks.
And some more Burro’s.
Back on Pavement.
At 12:00 we came to the paved road that goes to Lake Havasu Landing.
Once we were all on the pavement we headed east toward the Landing.
It took us longer to get to the Casino than I thought it would but we were there by 12:30.
We went into the restaurant and got t large table where we could all sit and ordered lunch.
It only took another half hour for them to get the food out to us.
My sandwich was good but Patti ordered the special (Meat ball Sub) not so good.
Locked Keys.
When we came out of the restaurant I found that I had locked the keys in the jeep.
This the reason that I seldom lock the jeep. It is too easy to get in from the back side windows. Or someone could just slash the top to get in. Patti insists that I lock it some times. Then I forget the keys in side.
Once I got in the jeep we headed back out the paved road to the small power line road. Here we turned south.
Chalk Hills.
Here we are crossing the chalk hills.
We zigzagged across the dusty hills.
Burros and Views.
We saw more Burro’s…
and more views…
and more views.
These Burros were very friendly. They looked like they wanted to get in Becky and Dennis’ jeep.
Close to the Lake.
After a long drive we came close to the lake…
and the Havasu Palms Mobil Home Park.
At the south end of the Mobil Home Park we got on the main dirt road and continued south through the nice canyons . . .
with some great rocks.
Before long we came to the place where we aired down completing the Havasu Landing Loop.
