Background.
Patti and I did this trail about 5 years ago. At that time the road was in pretty good shape with a few rough spots to make it interesting.
This time the road was in much poorer shape with mostly rough spots and only a few good spots.
Getting There.
We met at the Home Depot parking lot in Bullhead City at 8:30.
Once we had all arrived we headed east on Hwy 68. We drove all the way to Kingman, AZ where we got onto Stockton Hill Road which becomes Hualapai Mountain Road.
We could see snow on the mountains.
We stopped for a short break at the ranger station.
After leaving the Ranger Station we continued to climb through a residential area. When we got to the trail we noticed that this trail has become part of the Arizona Peace Trail.
The trail started out pretty nice going through the pine forest with a little snow along the sides.
The Road Starts Down Hill.
After a while the road began to descend the mountain.
We enter another area of forest with snow on the road side.
Here Freda is getting a hand full of snow so she can throw a snowball at Gene.
As we drove along the road continued to deteriorate.
After bouncing along for several hours we came to a wide spot and stopped for lunch.
After Lunch.
After lunch we continued the drive down off the mountain.
At this point we could see the road stretching out below us through a wide valley.
We went through several sections of switch backs.
The Boriana Mine.
After a while we could see the Boriana Mine below us.
We continued to drop down the mountain getting better views of the mine area.
Eventually we got to the mine area and drove up a hill…
to a large pond where some one had planted gold fish.
The fish have flourished.
Some of them are quite fat and look like they are pregnant.
We spent some time feeding the fish. Here is a feeding frenzy
The Mine.
After feeding the fish we drove down to look at the mining area.
There wasn’t much left standing.
We left the mine and continued down the rocky trail.
Junk Trucks.
We passed a bunch of old trucks lining the road.
There were a couple of old Willy’s trucks but Dennis M didn’t stop to see if he could buy one.
The Bottom of the Hill.
Eventually we got off the mountain and the road turned into a nicely graded wide gravel road. We followed this road until we came to the pavement at Alamo Road.
We stopped here to air up.
From Alamo Road we got onto I-40 and headed south for home.
Chinese Dinner.
When we got to Parker we stopped at the one Chinese Restaurant there and had supper. It was good and we took some home.
Okay, that was our trip to Laughlin, Nevada and the trails in that area.
It was a lot of fun and a lot of work.
