Monday Ride.
We decided to go to the Ramsey Mine Road. To get there we are going to try taking a back way from Gold Nugget Road. We are not sure that will work but it is worth trying.
We gathered at the Arco Station and were on the road by 9:00.
There was one couple with an ATV with us so we had them meet us at Gold Nugget Road since they can’t drive on I-10.
When we got to Gold Nugget Road we stopped to air down.
The Trail.
Once the tires were aired down we got on the trail. The trail followed the interstate east for a couple of miles, then turned southeast into the desert.
The surface wasn’t to bad, just a bit bumpy due to the small rocks.
We passed through a Cholla forest. I don’t think I’d want to walk through that.
The trail dropped into a wash and we followed it south toward some nice looking mountains.
We went through a few rocky spots but not to bad.
After a while the wash got a little rougher. . .
and rougher.
Eventually we came to a wall.
After standing around discussing the situation,
we might have been able to get over the wall but then there was no place to go and no way to turn around so we didn’t try it.
Here is Denis using the wall to turn around.
Cul-De-Sac’s.
As we traveled back down the wash…
we took several turnoffs that turned out to be dead ends.
I decided that I should put the signs on my jeep.
Note:
This is a bogus sign. It is only a joke. The phone number is also made up, although if you dial it you will get the ATT Fraud Division.
Lunch.
One of these dead ends turned out to be a good spot for lunch with a nice view of the mesa’s in the background.
After lunch we continued along the trail. At one point we had to drive on Highway 60 for about half a mile then turned off at a gate where we got on a trail that took us to Ramsey Mine Road right where it crosses over I-10.
Ramsey Mine Road.
Once we got to the Ramsey Mine Road, we turned left at the kiosk where the road splits. One road goes south and one road goes east for a while and and eventually turns south. We are headed for a wash on the east side of these two peaks.
After a few miles we came to the wash and turned west. We followed this wash to a steep rugged trail going up to the left.
This trail takes us up to a high valley where there are the remains of an old copper mile.
We hung out here for a while looking at stuff, then we climbed another steep rocky trail to get to the next level.
On this level there is a large outcrop of Chrysocolla, a blue rock that is associated with copper ore.
Everyone posed for pictures in front of the Chrysocolla out crop.
Denis and Sue.
Alain and Lucie. They are driving the ATV.
Frank and Lise.
Johnie and Diane.
Robert and Margret. They are Johnie and Diane’s neighbors at their RV park.
Robert tried to break off a piece of the Chrysocolla with his new $10.00 rock hammer.
It didn’t work out too well.
Heading for Home.
We left the blue rock and took the easy way down to the high valley.
This is Franks jeep coming down the hill.
Going Home.
We worked our way along the trail heading for Ramsey Mine Road.
Eventually we came to Highway 60. We aired up here and headed for home.
Frank, Lise, Denis and Sue left us there and guided Alain and Lucie back on the trail we used to get to Ramsey Mine Road. They can’t drive their ATV on the freeway.
Johnie, Diane, Patti and I took I-10 back to Q.
It was another good ride. We explored some trails that we haven’t been on before and enjoyed some great scenery.
Trip To Mexico. 2/27
Patti and I wanted to go to Yuma to have supper at the RED LOBSTER.
We mentioned it to Dave and Jo Ann and they said that they were going to Mexico on Tuesday along with Johnie, Diane, Robert and Margret. They would pick us up at 8:00 in their pick-up and asked if I would drive.
The plan was to go to Yuma. Have breakfast at the Cracker Barrel Restaurant then go to Mexico. Then go to the Quechan Casino in California so Patti and, Jo Ann and Dave could gamble. Then go to Red Lobster for dinner.
Los Algodones Mexico.
We got to Mexico around 10:30.
Dave stopped at a dentist to have his teeth cleaned. Patti and Jo Ann went off to do some shopping.
I sat on a stone bench at a stone table on a corner of the main street and watched people and fended off street venders.
Eventually Dave showed up after about an hour and we both sat there waiting for Patti and Jo to return.
Eventually the women showed up and we walked back across the border.
Quechan Casino.
From there we drove to the Casino. Patti, Jo Ann and Dave went into the casino to gamble.
I took a nap in the truck.
After a while Johnie, Diane, Robert and Margret showed up at the casino.
Johnie went into the casino to find Patti, Jo Ann and Dave.
Eventually they came out.
Patti was happy as she had won $113.00.
Red Lobster.
We drove back to Yuma and went to The Red Lobster for dinner.
Patti and I had the Lobster Lovers Dream.
It comes with two lobster tails ( 1 rock and 1 Maine, Fettuccini with shrimp and lobster in an Alfredo sauce and one side and a salad or soup.
It was very good. We only ate a little of the fettuccini and took the remainder home for tomorrow’s supper.
The Weather was cold and overcast with occasional sprinkles.
On the way home we saw a nice rainbow.
The streets were damp when we got back to Quartzsite.
