Chloride.
The town of Chloride is just off Highway 93 between Bullhead City and Kingman. It is an old mining town that dates back to 1860. Now a days it is a tourist attraction. The main street becomes a jeep trail that makes a loop through the mountains and connects back on Highway 93.
Getting Going.
We were to meet up with the rest of the group at 9:00 in the Home Depot parking lot.
Once we were all there, we headed up 68.
We drove to Golden Valley where we turned left on Bryce Road and followed it north for a few miles. When we got to highway 93, we followed it west and eventually came to the road that goes to Chloride.
We turned right and drove a couple of miles and entered the town of Chloride where we pulled into the parking lot of the Mineshaft Market.
Old Town.
From the parking lot, it was a short walk to where someone had built a replica of western town from old buildings that were salvaged from different parts of the desert.
Patti handed me the camera and I walked over to take a look.
This is looking at the north side of the street.
Here we are looking the other way with the town well in the fore ground.
Here is one of the saloon’s. Notice, that there is no glass in the window.
Old Car?
I noticed what looked like a strange old car but it is a junk sculpture.
Awfully cute though.
Cliff Murals.
After walking around for a little while we got back in our jeeps and headed out the loop trail.
Just out of town about a mile, you come to these large boulders that have pictures painted on them.
This one is a big snake.
I have no idea.
We left the Murals and started up the hill. This used to be the toughest part of the road but someone has cleared off all the boulders so now it is no challenge.
We took a wrong turn and had to turn around
but it was okay because we got a view of this large strip mine.
The First Mine.
We got back on the correct trail and continued around the mountains.
After a while we came to an old mine.
After checking out this place a little, we continued on our way.
You can see our back trail below.
Another Mine.
We came to another mine and stopped to look it over.
There was an old metal building.
The most interesting part of this mine was what looked like an old two cylinder steam engine that was mostly all there.
Windy Point.
We left this mine and continued the ride.
And enjoying the views.
Eventually we came to the Windy Point Campground. It lived up to its name. The wind was blowing hard and cold.
Some of the group took shelter on the lea side of the out house
Patti and I ate our lunch in the jeep.
After lunch we continued around the loop and eventually got back on the pavement. We retraced our route back toward Laughlin but took a side road looking for a particular trail that was supposed to go to a finger of Lake Mojave.
We took a couple wrong trails and eventually entered the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Fortunately we had our senior pass so we didn’t have to pay to get in.
We drove around for a while and eventually found the place Dennis was looking for and drove out on a peninsula into the lake.
We hung out by the water for a short time then headed out of here.
Back at the Casino.
After we got back to the casino we met with the rest of the group to have supper at the buffet.
A good ride again.
