We left the RV park at 8:00 and got on I-15 heading to St. George, Utah.
I-15 goes through the Virgin River Gorge, a pretty scenic drive.
We gassed up at the Pilot Truck Stop in St. George and drove back toward Mesquite a couple miles where we got onto River Road.
River Road.
We stopped to air down…
and continued up the road.
The road starts out as a wide well graded and graveled road where we can drive 45 to 50 mph. The only drawback is, the road is extremely dusty.
Fortunately for us we were in the front on the way in so we could see and the views were very nice.
After about 50 miles we came to the Grand Canyon National Monument.
The road became a bit smaller and a little rougher as we started climbing a steep canyon.
Eventually we entered a nice pine forest.
Here we saw a couple of deer.
This one posed nicely.
The Canyon.
Eventually we came to the Grand Canyon’s north rim.
The closer we get the more interesting the road becomes.
Here is our first view of the canyons edge.
Here are some pictures of the canyon.
Looking straight down at the Colorado River.
Denis has a slight problem with heights. Here, he is looking into the canyon.
Sue on the other hand has no problem with height.
That even scared me and I have no problem with height.
We walked around the rim looking into the canyon.
Rafters.
We could see some rafters on the river below us.
Here is one that is going through a small rapid right below us.
Heading Home.
We spent a couple hours at the rim and then started back.
Along the way we stopped to take a picture of this horse drawn grader.
We also stopped at the Mount Trumbull School House.
As we were driving along Denis pointed out this Fire Plug on the side of the road.
I doubt that the fire plug actually has water to it out here in the middle of no where.
Driving Home.
Eventually we got back to St George, We gassed up again and head back to Mesquite through the Virgin River Gorge.
By the time we were almost back to Mesquite the sun was setting.
Sunset.
In this picture it looks like the sky is on fire.
Beautiful sky.
By the time we got back to the RV the Moon was up.
Okay that’s was our Thursday ride, it was a long one. I think we did about 250 Miles.
Today we are going back to the same area but with a different destination.
I’ll tell you about it tomorrow.
