Heading Out.
We left the Beaverhead Work Station around 9:00 and continued south.
A Tortoise.
As we were driving along we came across this small tortoise crossing the road.
We passed some ponds and cattle grazing in the meadows.
Elk.
We entered a section of forest that had been burned. It looked like a recent fire.
Here we saw a couple of cow elk hiding among the burned trees.
They were hard to get a picture of them but here they are.
Sand River.
We were driving down a canyon with what looked like a river of sand on our left.
I suspect that the sand is the result of a flash flood.
Diamond Creek.
The book said that we would likely have to ford Diamond Creek if the weather is wet.
Here is diamond creek today.
Burned Forest.
We drove through another section of forest that has had a fire. It looks like the fire went through pretty fast. Because there was very little fuel on the ground only grass.
Road Work.
We came to a couple of spots where they are working on the road.
Here they are putting in a bunch of culverts.
A little further on we came to another detour.
This time they were putting in a new bridge.
Deer.
We saw a couple deer along the road.
Deer don’t wait around to get their pictures taken so it is rare that we get one.
Ants at the Picnic.
We got to a crossing of the Divide and there was a big flat where we sat and had our lunch.
In the above picture Dennis just realized that his feet and calves were covered with little black ants.
Pavement.
Eventually we got to the pavement.
We drove for several miles and crossed the Divide again.
Silver City.
Eventually we got to Silver City. We booked a room in the Copper Manor Motel.
As this was the last time we would be having supper with Cheryl and Dennis we decided it was our treat since they did such a great job of leading us on this trip.
We went back to the motel, had a little wine and retired early as tomorrow will be the last day of the CDT and will end at the Mexican Border.
