Getting Going.
There is a long section of the Continental Divide Bike Trail between Cuba and Grants that is impassable in wet weather. Since we have had lots of thunder storms and just plain rain we figured that it would be best tp bypass this section.
We left Cuba around 9:30, heading south on Highway 550. Off 550 we took 197 to 9 to 509 then to Grants.
We stopped in Grants so we could do some shopping at a Walmart.
Patti left her shoos at Jo Ann and Dave’s in Idaho Falls so she wanted some thing to ware in the desert.
After Walmart we got lunch and got back on the road heading south.
just south of Grants we took a small paved road going south west.
The pavement ended at the border of the Cibola National Forest.
The dirt road was pretty good for several miles.
some where along this road we crossed the Divide again. I don’t know how many crossings that is at this point.
We came to this sign at the road we are to take.
We decided that this time we were going to chance it. We have 4wheel drive after all.
The road started out very good and we moved along quickly. Enjoying the flowers along the road.
As we progressed we could see that if the road was wet it could be interesting.
We passed this big windmill.
We could see a thunder storm building as we went along.
We took a road off the main one that went to a trail head for the Cibola wilderness.
We stopped at the parking area for the trail and made cmp form the night.
As we sat around we could see the storm approaching.
The build up of clouds made for a great sunset.
Okay, that was day 17 on the Continental Divide Trail.
