Note:
I have gotten the sequence of these Post a bit out of sink. Just read them according to the Day number and the chronology will be correct.
On Our Way.
Last nights storm wasn’t to bad. We left our camp at the trailhead and continued south following the CDT.
Looking ahead it looks like we are heading right into a large storm.
Pie Town.
One of the places we were excited to visit was a place called Pie Town.
It has been famous for its pie restaurants for many years. There are at least three in town.
We visited two of the restaurants; The Pie Town Café
and the Pie-o-neer.
I have to say that I was a little disappointed in both places. The pies were okay but for a place that is called Pie Town and is famous for its pies, I expected the pies to be out of this world not just okay.
Next to the Pie-o-neer was a windmill collection that was pretty cool.
Heading South.
We left Pie Town and head south on the CDT.
We passed some pretty wildflowers along the way.
The road was still pretty good and we rolled along nicely.
Three Cinder Cones.
As we rode along we noticed these three cinder cones.
Patti couldn’t get all three in one picture so.
Here is the biggest cone which is on the left of the trio
More Fields of Flowers.
Past the cones we entered a beautiful green valley
with fields of flowers.
Old Rock Church.
As we drove through this beautiful valley…
we came upon this old rock church.
Past the church we found more flowers.
What’s This?
We passed this sign on the side of the road.
From the road I couldn’t really tell what particular project they are talking about unless it was putting up the sign.
Closer to the Storm.
We continued along getting closer and closer to the storm.
Here it comes.
The road’s getting a bit wet.
Lost of Water.
In this spot there was a lot of water was coming down the side of the road.
A few large puddles are forming.
The road is getting sloppier…
Dennis was going up this slight incline when his rear tires started going toward the left ditch.
He saved it but ended up sideways in the road.
More Flowers.
Crossing the Divide again.
Eventually we got past the muddy stretch on the road.
A Face in the Rocks.
As we were driving along past these neat rocks…
we noticed a strange face in the rocks. It looks like it is crying out.
Beaverhead Work Camp.
Eventually we made it to The Beaverhead work camp.
When we pulled in, it looked like there were a lot of people around the place. There were several buildings and lots of cars around.
I was not too excited about the possibility of camping here in their parking lot.
Cheryl went off to see if she could find anyone who would give us permission to camp here.
She found the caretaker, a young man named Anthony.
It turned out that Anthony was the only one at the facility and he was the most helpful Government employee that I have ever met.
He offered us food, drinks, electric hookups, and best of all he told us we could use his water hose to clean the mud off our rigs.
He also told us that the elk come down from the hills in the evening around 7:00.
What a guy!!
He was leaving the camp to go to a wedding.
But before he left he brought us some firewood. He even split the wood, some of it down to kindling.
What a guy!!
Here is Dennis using the government hose to wash his jeep.
Then it was Bob’s turn.
Then I got a turn. You can see the piles of mud on the ground around my van.
It was sure nice to get all that mud off the van. There was probably a hundred pounds of mud on each vehicle.
A Camp Fire.
After we had our suppers I started a fire.
We sat around the fire waiting for the Elk to show up.
Approaching Storm.
While we were sitting we could see this thunderstorm approaching.
The elk didn’t show up until after dark. We didn’t see them but we could hear them signaling each other.
The thunderstorm showed up a little later and chased us indoors.
