Quartzsite to Cameron, AZ.
We met Becky and Dennis at the ARCO station and left Quartzsite around 9:00 heading east on I-10.
At the AZ- 60 we took the turn off and headed toward Wickenburg. From Wickenburg we turned south and drove to Highway 74 where we headed east to I-17. Here we turned north.
Broken Sign.
The ride was relatively uneventful; the only problem was a traffic slow down for repairs on an over head sign.
Snow on the Peaks.
As we drove by the San Francisco Peaks near Flagstaff we could see that there was still a little snow up there.
Cameron.
We got to Cameron by 4:00, checked in and paid for our RV spot at the hotel. Around 5:30 we went to the restaurant with Becky and Dennis.
Second Leg 04/03, Cameron to Moab.
An Early Start.
We got going at 8:00 this morning heading north from Cameron on 89, through an area of colorful mud hills.
Nice pink cliffs of to the right as we cruise along further down the road.
This is just west of Kayenta, AZ. Patti noticed these colorful roof tops with the spires and rocks behind them.
Baby Rocks?
As we were passing this very interesting rock formation, I noticed a sign that said Baby Rocks.
Utah.
Around 11:30 we crossed into Utah.
About 25 miles further we crossed the San Juan River.
A few miles after crossing the river we came to Bluff, Utah.
You can probably guess why its called Bluff.
We drove up the canyon out the east side of Bluff heading toward Blanding.
Deer on the Road.
Past Blanding we crossed the end of Recapture Reservoir.
Up ahead we saw some deer crossing the road. We slowed down a little to let them get across and run up the hill.
Snow in the Mountains.
The La Sal Mountains still have some snow on them. This could affect one of the rides that we have planned. We will have to wait and see.
Bee Hive Rock.
This rock is a familiar sight to anyone who has traveled between Moab and Monticello.
I would sure like to check out that hole in the base of the rock some day.
Road Construction.
Just a little ways past the Hole in the Rock…
we came to some road construction. It looked like they were widening a stretch. We only had to wait at the flagger for about 15 minutes and then we were on our way.
Arrive in Moab.
We got to the OK RV Park on the south end of Moab, around 2:00.
It was a pretty easy drive as those things go and we made good time.
A Setup Mishap.
As we were setting up I was using the hydraulic levelers to level the rig when the system sprung a leak. It looks like it might be a blown hose. I probably won’t do anything about it until we get home.
I can drive up on boards for now to level the rig.
Okay that was the ride to Moab.
Tomorrow we start on the trails.
